Veistämö was born from a desire to do things differently — more slowly, more genuinely, and with our hands.

Our story

The story begins in Nivala, in the village of Pahkaperä, where our grandfather carved animals out of wood by the warmth of a kitchen wood stove. He taught us how to make things ourselves: through insight, experimentation, and collaboration. That’s where our love for craftsmanship, creativity, and the idea that every object carries a story was born.

Veistämö is a shared workshop between siblings, where we design and create handcrafted jewelry and ceramic pieces from start to finish in Finland. My brother, Matias Karsikas, designs the products, and together we craft them by hand in Nivala — every step, every detail, done by us.

Not all of our pieces are made in exactly the same way: the flower jewelry is freely hand-shaped, while the Ikimetsä("Ancient Forest") series of animal jars are cast using molds we make ourselves. But nothing is made by machine or industrial process. Every detail is finished by hand. This makes each item unique, bearing the marks of the human hand — subtle variations and the feeling of something truly handmade.

The flower jewelry pieces are like small sculptures — miniatures of Matias’s larger flower artworks that now become part of everyday life. The idea of carrying a small piece of art and the atmosphere of the forest with you is something deeply meaningful and special to us.

Veistämö is more than just a workspace. It is a way of living and creating — a way of honoring past generations, nature, and the creativity that emerges when a person takes a lump of clay and shapes it into something that stands the test of time.
